About Sarajevo Linguistic Gatherings and SinFonIJA

Sarajevo Linguistic Gatherings started in 2005 at the occasion of professor Midhat Riđanović's retirement. Since then three conferences were organized with the help of Forum Bosnae.

The main objectives of the Sarajevo Linguistic Gatherings are:
" Advancement of generative linguistics in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
" Development of a cooperative academic/research network between Bosnian and other linguists, especially in areas of common interests.
" Providing a forum for descriptive, contrastive and theory-based research into (south) Slavic languages, especially Bosnian/Croatian/Montenegrin/Serbian.

SinFonIJA stands for Sintax Phonology and Language Analysis (SINtaksa FONologija In Jezikovna Analiza). The idea of having a conference that would travel around the area of Central and South East Europe has been around for some time, but it took some time before it was implemented.

At the initial meeting last year in Nova Gorica (SinFonija's website) it was decided that we should continue with this initiative and try to really make it a permanent traveling conference. We will see what fate awaits SinFonija in the future.
